So Thursday night was Nelsons last night in Thailand and so it was decided to make sure that we sent him back to Brazil in style. After an extremely hard days training that left us all dead on our feet it was time for a quick shower and getting changed before heading out to hit Patong for a night that none of us will forget in a hurry!

By the time I met up with Jake, Jai and Nelson in the local sports Bar Jake was already in full swing starting fires wherever he could. He and Jai had been in the bar for the last 2 hours while Nelson and I finished our BJJ class and got ready so they had had a great head start on us. They were playing random bar games with the bar maids and slowly recruiting more people to our quest of drunkenness. One particular interaction went like this:

Random Dude: Excuse me, do you guys speak English?
Jake: Yeah Mate, you coming Patong!? Taxis in 5 mins!

…and that was Jakes recruiting plan all night long. People that had only been in the country for a few hours were being hassled and harassed by the excitable Aussie to get out and get drinking… and you know what? It worked. Suddenly we had an armada of people heading for Patong to get out there and party.

JaiFrom this point on all the finer details of the night seem to get a little hazy. First we headed to a bar that had a cover band on doing rock covers of loads of different bands ranging from Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit to Queen so the atmosphere is there was awesome. We got a few vids that I will get together and get posted at some point later. After we chilled in there for a bit Nelson found us a deal with a street vendor that if we went into the Tiger club we could pay 1000 THB each (about £20) and have access to an open bar for for 2 hours. All were into agreement so into Tiger Club went our merry little bunch.

The 2 hours of free drinks didnt start until midnight and at this point it was about 11:30pm so we had toTiger Beer amuse ourselves for a little bit before we could start the proper drinking. I was about to go to the bar to grab a drink when I was stopped by Nelson who said “Just wait”. The Brazilian had struck again getting a bottle of Vodka delivered to the table that then put us in the VIP Table service club for the rest of the night. Buying a bottle of Vodka in that club cost about 4400 THB so around £88 but for that you not only got the bottle and all the mixes you wanted but that somehow also got us not one but 2 waitresses for the rest of the night who it seems only job was to fill up our glasses and wipe down our table whenever it got wet. Seemed really random at first as they just stood there but soon we were chatting to them and getting them to actually smile rather than looking bored out of their heads.

At midnight our open bar opened so we had to go into another room to get those drinks. By then we had also met up with some more of Nelsons friends, some Australian English teachers who were living in Thailand, who didn’t have the same wrist bands as us. Instead of splitting up the group we just got the staff to transfer our vodka to the other room for them to drink and then we started hitting the bar… hard. Tequila shots were firmly on the menu and seemed to go down far too easily, one after the other.

PeepsThings started to go a little wrong for Jake when he went to drink some of his cocktail and toasted with Jai first. They clinked glasses together and in doing so a piece of his glass chipped off and fell into his drink but he didn’t notice and started to down it. About halfway down the drink he suddenly stopped and spat out a chunk of glass. It scared him but luckily he didn’t swallow it or that could have really ended badly. Even though Jake survived this little incident he unfortunatly didnt survive the multiple Tequila shots and eventually needed Nelson to take him home in a Taxi before coming back to carry on the partying. Before he did go though he did manage to have a little dance battle against a team of professional B-Boys who were all breakdancing in the clubs with some crazy air flairs and head spins. Jakes moves were not quite up to scratch but he still looked to be having a good time before the Alcohol caught up with our Aussie friend and took him out for the count.

After the 2 hours were up we headed back to our private table where another bottle of Vodka seemed to appear thanks again to Nelson and his Brazilian party mood. The rest of the night is a bit of a blur but it is safe to say a good night was had by everyone who crossed out path that night and Nelson had the send off that he deserved. Round 2 is going to be booked in for Brazil!

Goodbye for not to an awesome guy!

  1. Good to see the adventures are back in print. Had nothing to read over the weekend. Not had a cigarette for 12 days but already put 4 lbs on so will have to watch the diet & exercise more. Will keep thinking of you for inspiration. Love you xxxxx

  2. AWESOME MUM! Keep up the good work. I know it isnt easy for you but each day that passes it will become easier. Just keep up the walking whenever you can and everything will turn out well. I will make sure I keep up the info so you have things to read! Love you too x

  3. yeah it doesnt sound too bad but when you realise you can get a beer from a shop for about a quid you soon realise that paying 4400 TBH for a bottle of vodka you can buy in a shop for 800 TBH is a bit mental!
