Today during BJJ I sparred with a guy called Andy who was originally from the UK but had lived in Australia for the last 7 years with his family. We got chatting about what we love about BJJ and various different things when I mentioned that the main black belts that train me at my home gym are Neil and Paul. He instantly said “Are you talking about Neil Owen by any chance?”. I said “no, but I do know who he is as he does seminars at our gym when he comes back to the UK to visit”.

It turns out that back in Australia he trains under the same guy that often comes over to my gym back at home to do seminars, teach classes and just generally hang out and if a good friend of our club. It seems like such a small world that I can come all the way to Thailand and meet someone who has trained under the same person but at a different side of the world! Madness

  1. Just in case you speak to him again, Neil was the main black belt at DMAC until he emigrated, guessing he trains at one of his infinity schools. He’s also just given me my brown belt 😉 In case you didn’t know haha

  2. Have you still not met anyone who says ” I know your mum”. Uncle John will lose money if that does not happen soon xxx

  3. Mr Cunningham that was a one off accident. It was not my fault it resulted in you having to travel to Balby in the boot of Adrian’s car. Besides, I recall that you enjoyed the experience. You climbed out saying the base sounded good from in there xx
