Today has started the first full day of a new chapter of my life and the adventures laid out in front of me. My main goal for Auckland is to just use the time to get my head straight and take a few walks about, seeing what sites I happen to pass on the way before heading to Queenstown to adventure my ass off with CB for a few days which I am really looking forwards too.

Today I went through my orientation with the job search New Zealand team here at the base hostel and have also filled out all the forms for sorting out my tax code and setting up a new bank account which should hopefully be sorted in a few days. I have no plans on working just yet or even where I want to be in the country but it seemed easier to get all of that done now while I am here so that I don’t have to mess about later on down the line.

While making the appointment to set up the bankDSC_0523 (576x1024) account I met a guy called Dom from the UK and got chatting to him for quite a while. We ended up grabbing lunch together and then going for a massive walk around the city to see some sites and get our bearings. First we headed to the docks and then to a little park called Albert Park which was quite chilled out and nice. From there we decided to head towards a massive park called Domain park that is near the centre of Auckland. Is at about this time that my phone battery died and so directions became a little limited. We knew roughly which direction it was DSC_0526 (1024x576)in and so decided to wing it and walk in one direction looking for trees. We did think we found it but also thought it was a very weird park indeed. What we actually found as my map now tells me is that we ended up at Symore street cemetery which is sort of an abandoned cemetery / overgrown area that is cut off and have a big bridge over it. We thought that that was the park we were looking for and carried on our adventure from there, eventually hitting the hospital. What we didn’t know was that basically the hospital was the other side of the hospital so we basically nearly got there then turned around. We also walked back by the side of DSC_0524 (1024x576)it without even really knowing which sucks but I guess that is was adventure is really about! After that weheaded down to the docks again but to where all the yachts were, including some of the race teams for an upcoming event so the area was quite alive. It looks really well redeveloped and revitalised which is really nice to see. Unfortunately as my phone was dead I don’t have any pictures of it.

I think I will head out again to try and find the big park and see what happens, Maybe even stick some shorts on and go for a walk / jog / run and see how I get along. Everyday an adventure!
